Overview
When tooth loss occurs in the upper jaw, it can affect a patient’s ability to be a good candidate for a dental implant restoration. In these circumstances, a sinus lift procedure can be provided in order to create enough room and support for an implant. Drs. Edward Delgado and Michael Kuzmik in Alexandria, VA perform a sinus lift in order to improve bone quality, create adequate bone height, and correct sinus cavities that may have extended into the bone in order to allow for the placement of bone grafting tissue. When you have lost a tooth or are needing a tooth extraction, a sinus lift procedure can help to restore your oral health and allow for the placement of a dental implant. Contact us at Drs. Delgado & Kuzmik P.C. Alexandria to obtain more information about a sinus lift procedure at our innovative facility or to schedule your initial consultation.
Reviews
Best Candidates
Individuals who may be candidates for a sinus lift procedure could have missing or damaged teeth in their upper jaw area, specifically in the upper molar and premolar regions. Additionally, they could have insufficient bone height and volume because of bone loss or a sinus cavity that extends too far into where the implant may be placed. Prior to your sinus lift procedure, Drs. Delgado and Kuzmik will utilize iCat™ cone beam CT 3D imaging technology in order to determine the current location of your sinus cavity, nerves, and jawbone to identify if you would benefit from a sinus lift procedure.
What To Expect
As an advanced surgical bone grafting procedure, a sinus lift is performed within our innovative facility by board-certified oral surgeons Drs. Delgado and Kuzmik. Prior to the treatment, the area will be numbed and sedation will be provided to allow you to relax during your procedure. When you are ready, an incision will be made in your gums in order to reveal your bone and sinus cavity. Utilizing special instruments, the sinus floor will be carefully lifted and bone grafting tissue will be added below in order to maintain the new position of your sinus cavity, as well as increase the amount of bone available for the placement of a dental implant. After the procedure is complete, the gum tissue will be sutured closed and the treatment area will be thoroughly rinsed.
Recovery
After your procedure, a member of our team will offer you the appropriate after-care instructions in order to allow you to heal properly. Additionally, we will provide you with any necessary prescription pain relievers and antibiotics to take throughout your recovery. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled about 1 – 2 weeks after your surgery so that your sutures can be removed and your healing can be evaluated. Once you have fully healed from your sinus lift, your dental implant procedure can be scheduled at our facility.
Insurance Coverage
For patients who have dental insurance, our financial team will contact your provider to determine your benefits and out-of-pocket costs. Once your customized procedure plan has been formulated, we will be better able to help you understand your treatment costs. At Drs. Delgado & Kuzmik P.C. Alexandria, we also accept several forms of payment and financing through CareCredit®.
